Hello all - this is my first year teaching high school science and I am very excited to be in the classroom! I have spent a good amount of time in science or education and now I'm excited to bring these experiences together and teach in Florence. I grew up in Red Lodge, MT and have lived mostly between Red Lodge and Missoula. I've attended UM several times, earning a B.A in Biology, an M.S. in Neuroscience, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. Before teaching I worked in neuroscience research at UM, studying the mechanisms of learning and memory. Although I love research, I found that some of my favorite experiences in the lab and throughout grad school occured when I was working with students and this inspired me to pursue teaching as a career.
When I'm not in the classroom I love to get outside and enjoy the beautiful state we live in. If it's warm I like to hike, raft, and garden (this is a work in progress), and when the snow flies I love to ski and ice skate. I also enjoy reading, baking, and playing board games with my family. I am married with two kids (now in 4th and 6th grade) and our family also has 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, 2 toads, and a goldfish pond with over 50 goldfish (always free to a good home).
I'm looking forward to the year ahead and getting to know you all! The door to my classroom is always open and all are welcome to drop by or get in touch with me anytime.
