    Hello Florence Families!

My name is Moe Chapman and I am the Elementary School Counselor at Florence! I am excited to be starting my second year counseling at Florence. For those of you that don’t know, I am actually a Florence Alum! I attended Florence K-12 and I enjoyed it so much, I thought I would come back. The students, staff and parents have been so wonderful to work with and it is great to be a part of this community again.

I received my Bachelors in Psychology with an emphasis in research, and child and family development from the University of Montana. I returned to the U of M later to receive my Masters in School counseling and I am a Nation Board Certified Counselor as well.  Some of my previous experience involves teaching preschool for three years and working as Lakeside MT’s Elementary Counselor.

In my free time I love being outdoors, hiking, biking, and paddle boarding. I have a lab named Bridger and a Great Dane named Kaiser. During remote learning, many students got to meet my dogs and still like to hear stories about them. I am looking forward to this new and exciting year with your students!

    My role at Florence:

Throughout the year your child will get to know me in several different ways. I provide classroom lessons for K-5 on topics such as coping skills, problem solving and friendship skills. I also provide small groups which are available to all students. These groups provide students the chance to work on their friendship and communication skills in a smaller setting. This is also a great way to help students feel connected to school and their peers. I also offer individual counseling for students that may need more one-on-one support. This is also available for any student, as I am here to help all students be successful.

I think it goes without saying that this year will be different for everyone. This past year has brought a lot of changes for many families. I would like to let you know that I have many resources available to help alleviate some of the stress your family may be experiencing. These resources include backpack meals that can be given to students to help meet the nutritional needs of students over the weekend. I have plenty of school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks and such available. I also have funds available to buy PE shoes if needed.
